New Delhi, July 24: Rotary International and the Government of India have initiated discussions to deepen collaboration in advancing national development priorities through community-led initiatives, following a meeting between Rtn. AKS Er. Muruganandam M., Vice President, Rotary International , and Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, Vice President of India, in New Delhi today.
The meeting focused on strengthening partnerships across key sectors including education, public healthcare, youth leadership development, water and sanitation, and nation-building initiatives, leveraging Rotary’s global network, grassroots presence and decades of expertise in community service to deliver sustainable impact across India.
In a significant development, the Vice President expressed his support for Rotary India’s aspiration to host a future Rotary International Convention in the country. As one of Rotary’s largest global events, the convention would bring together thousands of delegates from across the world, positioning India as a global hub for humanitarian collaboration, innovation and service while strengthening international partnerships.
“It was an honour to meet the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, and discuss opportunities to strengthen Rotary’s contribution to India’s development journey. His encouragement, particularly for India’s aspiration to host a future Rotary International Convention, highlights our commitment to expanding impactful service initiatives and building stronger partnerships that create lasting change for communities across the country,” said Rtn. AKS Er. Muruganandam M., Vice President, Rotary International .
The Vice President also acknowledged Rotary’s more than 120-year legacy of service and its leadership in the global fight against polio through the End Polio Now initiative. He also appreciated the organisation’s ongoing efforts in immunisation, advocacy and community outreach and encouraged Rotary to continue its commitment to achieving a polio-free world.
Rotary remains a leading partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. Together with its partners, Rotary has helped reduce polio cases by 99.9 percent worldwide and contributed more than USDollar 3 billion, along with countless volunteer hours, to protect over three billion children from this debilitating disease. Beyond polio eradication, Rotary members across the world develop and implement sustainable, community-led projects that fight disease, promote peace, provide access to clean water and sanitation, support education, strengthen local economies, protect the environment and improve maternal and child health. Through The Rotary Foundation, more than USDollar5.5 billion has been invested in humanitarian initiatives and community development projects over the past century.
