ELE|NA Sanctuaries Achieve Platinum Sustainable Spa & Wellness Accreditation across Eight Maldives Locations

MALÉ, MALDIVES, Aug 17: ELE|NA Sanctuaries, the wellness division of Atmosphere Core, has been awarded the Platinum Sustainable Spa & Wellness Accreditation, the highest distinction conferred by the Sustainable Wellness Group, across eight sanctuaries in the Maldives. The achievement follows three consecutive years of Gold Standard accreditation and recognises the brand’s long-term commitment to sustainability, regenerative wellness, and responsible hospitality practices.

ELE|NA Sanctuaries Achieve Platinum Sustainable Spa & Wellness Accreditation

The accreditation acknowledges ELE|NA’s continued efforts across energy management, waste reduction, biodiversity conservation, staff wellbeing, guest engagement, and operational sustainability. It also highlights the brand’s approach to integrating sustainability into every aspect of the wellness journey, from treatment experiences to day-to-day resort operations.

“In a destination as ecologically sensitive as the Maldives, sustainability must be demonstrated through consistent action rather than promises. Achieving Platinum reflects years of dedication from our teams across the islands to embed responsible practices into the guest experience and daily operations. While we are proud of this milestone, we see it as part of an ongoing journey towards a more regenerative model of wellness hospitality,” said Heidi Grimwood, Senior Vice President, Atmosphere Wellness Pvt. Ltd.

At the heart of ELE|NA’s philosophy is a strong connection between wellness and nature. Across its sanctuaries, locally sourced and garden-grown ingredients including ginger lily, hibiscus, pandan, butterfly pea and ginger are incorporated into treatments; herbal infusions and wellness rituals. The sanctuaries also embrace circular practices by repurposing natural and existing materials, from coconut shells transformed into spa accessories to retired linens reimagined as wellness products.

Beyond the spa, sustainability initiatives include the use of solar energy, waste-heat recovery systems, wastewater treatment for landscaping, and on-site drinking water production through reverse osmosis systems, reducing dependence on imported bottled water. The Sustainable Wellness Group recognised the sanctuaries as excelling in Energy Management, Waste Management, Biodiversity & Nature Stewardship, and Wellness & Human Sustainability.
