9th September 2024: As Maharashtra celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi with traditional fervor, Zomato witnessed a surge in demand for festive delicacies and offerings, reflecting evolving consumer preferences during this festive season.

  • Option to order ‘Bappa cha prasad’ was available on the app: A new feature was rolled out to allow customers to order prasad from the top mandals in Mumbai & Pune.
  • Dagdusheth Halwai trust’s prasad was delivered along with the local renowned mandals of the city. On the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, 2K boxes of prasad were delivered within a couple of hours of go-live.
  • Modak sales soared like never before: Sales for modak picked up 2 days before Ganesh Utsav, Zomato recorded 50K searches of modak on 6th September, rising to 125K on 7th September.
  •  On the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, 58 modak boxes were sold every minute.
  •  To align with the tradition of purchasing modak in auspicious quantities, modak boxes of 11 and 21 were featured from its restaurant partners. 10+ types of most popular modak were available. Ukadiche Modak stole the show in Maharashtra with 39% of total Modak sales.
  •  A customer from Mumbai placed an order for 42 modak boxes costing ₹11,352 on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi.

What else did Maharashtra eat on Ganesh Chaturthi:

  •  Highest growth was seen in mithai and sweets with Mithai restaurants witnessing an all-time high of orders with 240% growth over a usual day.
  •  One brand in Mumbai grew nearly 10X on Chaturthi day. Most popular snack was pav bhaji, few short of 10k were sold, followed by samosa and vada pav.
