Mumbai, 25th October 2025: An opulent Broadway-style musical titled ‘Kaneez’ is set to premiere at the Jamshed Bhabha Auditorium in Mumbai on November 28 and 29, 2025. Directed by theatre veteran Randhir Ranjan Roy, the production intricately explores themes of love, societal constraints, and forbidden romance in a divided society.

A Timeless Tale of Love and Sacrifice

‘Kaneez’ narrates the poignant love story between a young priest, portrayed by Siddharth Nigam and Raayo, and an enchanting tawaif, essayed by Gulki Joshi and Kirti Killedar. Their profound bond defies the rigid boundaries of faith and caste, forging a secret romance marked by longing, sacrifice, and societal prejudice.

Inspired by the true story of Tanno Bai, a celebrated courtesan from 1920s Patna, and her devoted admirer, priest Dharikshan Tiwari, ‘Kaneez’ brings to life a narrative that transcends societal norms, highlighting love’s enduring power over a century later.
