Mumbai, September 09: Finland International School Race Course, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Finland, hosted a special celebration to mark the 80th anniversary of the beloved Finnish characters, the Moomins, created by renowned artist and author Tove Jansson.

Moomins Picture The two-hour event at the Mahalakshmi campus on August 23 featured stories, crafts, short films, music, and treats, bringing to life the charm of Moomintroll and his friends from Moominvalley.

“The event was a tribute to stories that remain timeless even after 80 years. Moomin books have inspired films, television series, and theme parks, and we were delighted to bring the friendly and open spirit of the Moominvalley to Mumbai,” said Dr. Eva Nilsson, Deputy Consul General of Finland.

Highlighting values of friendship, imagination, and community, the event also featured a community reading project in collaboration with the Japanese School in Powai and the Consulate General, where Moomin stories were shared in 14 languages.

“Being an IB World School, we continuously seek opportunities to promote international-mindedness in our learning community. While the Moomin books have been translated into more than sixty languages, we were delighted to add translations into the languages spoken within our community,” said Anna Hart, Principal of Finland International School Race Course. A video of the reading project will be available at the school until the end of the celebration year.

“The Moomins are relatable because they reflect both joy and sadness, making them meaningful for children,” said Fatema Agarkar, Educationist and School Board Mentor. Trustee of Finland International School, Shashank Goenka, added, “This event shows how learning can be joyful when it becomes a shared experience that extends beyond the classroom.”

The 80 years of Moomins continue to be celebrated in Delhi, where an exhibition is ongoing until the end of the year at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art.
