According to Airbnb’s 2025 Winter Travel Trends Survey, the colder months have become the nation’s most cherished season for exploration, relaxation, and meaningful getaways. Flexible work schedules, hybrid lifestyles, and a desire for enriching experiences are transforming how Indians plan their winter journeys.

Winter Travel  India’s New Favourite Season;

The survey reveals that 55% of Indian travellers plan winter trips every year, highlighting the season’s growing appeal driven by pleasant weather, scenic landscapes, and better value offerings.

Why Indians Are Travelling in Winter

Winter travel is no longer only about holidays it’s about rejuvenation and discovery:

  • 30% travel to celebrate seasonal holidays

  • 30% travel to unwind and relax

  • 20% seek winter-exclusive cultural or seasonal experiences

Gen Z & Millennials Fueling Winter Wanderlust;

Younger travellers are leading this shift:

  • Nearly 50% of winter travellers are Gen Z and Millennials

  • They prefer winter for its comfort, cooler weather, and natural beauty

How Indians Prefer to Travel

Indians continue to value shared travel experiences:

  • 50% travel with their partner or spouse

  • 33% travel with friends

  • 30% plan multi-generational family trips

This growing preference for communal travel is increasing demand for larger homes, villas, and unique stays boosting Airbnb’s momentum in India.

Airbnb’s internal search data shows strong interest in destinations offering warmth, nature, and culture:

Coastal favourites:

  • Goa (particularly South Goa)

  • Kerala (Varkala, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi)

Hill escapes:

  • Manali

  • Mussoorie

  • Rishikesh

Cultural cities:

  • Udaipur

  • Jaipur

  • Rising hotspots: Varanasi and Vrindavan, especially among younger travellers seeking spiritual-leisure experiences
