The sacred festival of Kartik Purnima was celebrated with great devotion and grandeur at Shri Jagannath Mandir, Thyagraj Nagar, New Delhi, on Wednesday, 5th November 2025. This annual celebration remained one of the most significant religious and cultural events organized by the Mandir, witnessing the participation of over 10,000 devotees, including prominent dignitaries and well-known personalities from Delhi and neighboring regions.

Among the distinguished guests present on the occasion were Shri Bijaya Nayak, who currently serves as the Additional Press Secretary to the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, and Smt. Kusumlata Devi, the respected local Councilor, Dr. Ashapurna khatua, Assistant professor, Delhi University. Their gracious presence added special significance to the occasion and reflected their continued support towards the Mandir’s cultural and spiritual initiatives.

The day’s festivities began at 5:00 AM with Mangala Aarti and Snana Puja of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra, , Lord Jagannath was adorned in the majestic Suna Bhesha (Golden Attire), symbolizing divine prosperity and blessings for all devotees. The sight of the Lord in this resplendent form filled the hearts of devotees with immense joy and reverence, followed by devotional chanting, Bhajans, and Deep Daan. One of the main highlights of the celebration was the Boita Bandana (Boat Festival) — a traditional Odia ritual symbolizing the ancient maritime glory of Odisha. Special water pond arrangements were made within the Mandir premises to enable devotees to perform the Boita Bandana ritual with devotion and ease.

The occasion also coincided with Bada Osha, an auspicious day dedicated to Lord Shiva. On the eve of Bada Osha, special Prasad Sevan and Gaja Manda Bhog were offered to devotees. The Mandir premises were beautifully decorated with flowers and lights, and thousands of diyas illuminated the temple, creating a divine and festive atmosphere.

Speaking about the event, the spokesperson of the Mandir Committee said:

“Kartik Purnima and Boita Bandana are deeply rooted in our tradition and faith. The festival unites devotees through devotion, culture, and community spirit. The event concluded with Mahaprasad distribution and heartfelt prayers seeking the blessings of Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath for peace, prosperity, and spiritual well-being of all.
