New Delhi, April 9: Prem Singh Tamang, Chief Minister of Sikkim, met the Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, in a cordial and constructive interaction, highlighting key developmental priorities of the state.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed his sincere gratitude, on behalf of the people of Sikkim, for the inclusion of Part–X, “Pride of Hills: Special Development Assistance for the Hill States,” under SASCI 2026–27. He appreciated the Government of India’s recognition of the unique challenges faced by hill states and acknowledged the continued support extended to Sikkim.
Tamang specifically thanked the Union Minister for the generous financial allocation under the initiative, noting that Sikkim is set to receive an additional ₹820 crore. He emphasised that this support would play a crucial role in addressing infrastructural gaps and promoting sustainable development in the region.
The discussion also focused on strengthening financial assistance, enhancing infrastructure, and accelerating long-term, sustainable growth across Sikkim. The Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to effectively utilising central support to improve the quality of life for its citizens.
Further, Tamang extended a warm welcome to Sitharaman and conveyed his best wishes for her visit to the Vibrant Villages Programme, a flagship initiative conceptualised by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. He noted that the programme has emerged as a transformative effort, significantly benefiting communities residing in border areas.
The meeting underscored the Centre’s continued focus on inclusive development and its commitment to empowering hill states like Sikkim through targeted financial and policy support.
