Perceptive Ideas Consulting Engineers Pvt. Ltd., a design-first structural engineering consultancy, has once again demonstrated its expertise through the structural design of Aurika Luxury by Lemon Tree, Udaipur. Nestled within the rugged Aravalli hills, the project exemplifies the firm’s commitment to integrity, innovation, and professionalism, transforming one of the region’s most challenging terrains into an iconic hospitality landmark.

As the Structural Design Consultant, Perceptive Ideas addressed the steep gradients, undulating contours, and variable geological strata of the Aravallis. Instead of extensively reshaping the hills, the team adopted a terraced structural planning approach, enabling the built form to blend naturally with the landscape. This strategy preserved slope stability, minimized excavation, and maintained architectural harmony.
Given the complex geology characterized by weathered rock, inconsistent SBC pockets, and local shear zones the firm developed a comprehensive piling strategy. This included deep piles, isolated and combined pile caps on steep slopes, rock-socketed piles where refusal strata existed, and rigorous pile load and integrity testing. These measures ensured uniform load distribution and long-term structural performance across varying site elevations.
Hill stabilization was another critical focus. The team implemented engineered granular backfilling, touch piles for vertical members, retaining structures with shear keys, and geogrid-based soil confinement. Extensive retaining systems, including counterfort RCC walls, soil-nailed solutions for deep cuts, staged excavation, and robust drainage mechanisms, were employed to mitigate hydrostatic pressure and ensure slope stability throughout construction.
Terrain-driven solutions extended to the superstructure as well. Voids were created between column foundations to avoid unnecessary soil filling, column spacing was optimized to minimize hill disturbance, and columns were strategically placed to reduce pile dependency. Every decision emphasized safety, constructability, and alignment with architectural intent.
Reflecting on the project, Mr. Ajay Gupta, Principal Consultant & Founder of Perceptive Ideas, said,
“Aurika Udaipur is a testament to engineering that respects and responds to nature. Designing amidst the Aravallis was a challenge that demanded precision, sensitivity, and innovation. We aimed to create a strong structure that harmonizes with its surroundings, and we are proud to have delivered a landmark that embodies resilience and elegance.”
Carved into the Aravalli hills, Aurika Udaipur now stands as a remarkable feat of engineering, defined by meticulous analysis, state-of-the-art construction techniques, and unwavering commitment to long-term safety and performance. Through every structural intervention aligned to architectural vision, Perceptive Ideas has set a new benchmark for hillside hospitality engineering in India.
