Indore, jan 1 :- What began as a small, painless swelling in the right arm led to a life-altering diagnosis for a 46-year-old male patient with arm sarcoma  a rare and aggressive cancer originating in the biceps muscle. Facing the possibility of losing arm function entirely, the patient underwent a complex, organ-preserving surgery at HCG Cancer Centre, Indore, which successfully removed the cancer while restoring hand and elbow movement.

The patient was treated under the care of Dr. Saket Mittal, Consultant  Surgical Oncologist, who explained that complete removal of the biceps muscle was critical to ensure oncological safety. This made the surgery particularly challenging, as the surgical team had to carefully balance complete cancer removal with preservation of elbow movement essential for everyday activities.

Following admission to HCG Cancer Centre, Indore on 20th May, 2025 where after detailed evaluation and planning, Dr. Mittal offered a precision, organ-preserving surgery.

The surgery was successfully performed on 21st May, 2025 during which the tumour was completely excised with clear cancer margins. Using LD Flap Reconstruction, a specialised reconstructive technique, the surgical team restored elbow strength and movement, ensuring the patient’s hand was preserved and full arm functionality was retained   all while achieving complete cancer removal.

The patient was discharged on 27th May, 2025 and, within one month of surgery, was able to bend the elbow properly and resume normal daily activities. Today, the patient is cancer-free and living life with confidence, reflecting the success of advanced surgical expertise combined with comprehensive cancer care

Explaining the significance of the procedure, Dr. Saket Mittal said;

“This case demonstrates the importance of combining oncological precision with functional reconstruction. Our approach ensured complete removal of the tumour while preserving the patient’s quality of life, hand function, and independence. Organ-preserving surgeries like this reflect our commitment to patient-centric cancer care.”

Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Nitin Bamaniya, Chief Operating Officer, HCG Cancer Centre, Indore, said;

 “At HCG Cancer Centre, our focus goes beyond treating cancer to restoring function and improving quality of life. This successful surgery demonstrates how innovation, teamwork, and patient-focused care can deliver truly meaningful outcomes for patients.”
