Bhubaneswar, Jan 09: Ekamra Natya Sangathan, Bhubaneswar, successfully organised its Seventh Annual Function, along with the Sixth Annual Function of Ekamra Nrutyashala, at BhanjaKala Mandal, Bhubaneswar, in association with the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department, Government of Odisha, on Thursday. Best Natya Director of Western odisha Biseswar Khulari felicitated for outstanding contribution for promotion of art and culture. Dignitaries present at the occasion were Director of Satabdira Kalakar Dhira Mallick, Noted choreographer Saswat joshi and others.

The cultural evening celebrated the rich traditions of Odia theatre and dance, bringing together artists, students, theatre lovers, and cultural enthusiasts from across the city. The programme stood as a vibrant platform for showcasing creative expression rooted in Odisha’s artistic heritage while engaging with contemporary themes.

The highlight of the event was the staging of the acclaimed play “Mu Nathuram Kahuchi”, which drew keen attention from the audience for its powerful narrative, compelling performances, and thought-provoking theme. The play was appreciated for its strong dramaturgy and relevance, reflecting the continuing role of theatre as a medium for social and historical reflection.  The play is written by Shri Nimain Lenka and directed by Shri Jitendra Pattnaik.

The programme also featured a series of Odissi and modern dance performances presented by students of Ekamra Nrutyashala. The dancers mesmerised the audience with their grace, rhythm, and expressive storytelling, seamlessly blending classical aesthetics with contemporary choreography.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Nimai Charan Lenka, Secretary, Ekamra Natya Sangathan, Bhubaneswar, said,

“Ekamra Natya Sangathan and Ekamra Nrutyashala are committed to nurturing theatre and dance as living art forms. Through such annual platforms, we aim to encourage young artistes, preserve Odia cultural traditions, and create meaningful dialogue between classical and contemporary creative expressions.”

The event reaffirmed the role of cultural institutions in sustaining Odisha’s artistic ecosystem and promoting Odia language, literature and performance arts among the younger generation
