, 7th March 2024: Pirojsha Godrej Foundation, a philanthropic organization that supports non-profits working on education, climate action, biodiversity conservation, and healthcare launched the Wildlife Photography Challenge on the occasion of World Wildlife Day. The contest entries will be judged by Bittu Sahgal, renowned environmental activist, and Founder of Sanctuary Nature Foundation.

The Pirojsha Godrej Foundation has been instrumental in advancing sustainability and environmental conservation in India. The Foundation, through its collaborations with non-profits and think tanks across the country has addressed issues such as biodiversity conservation, climate change, and renewable energy. The Foundation also aids in preserving the biodiversity of the Vikhroli Mangroves and collaborates with organisations such as Nature Sanctuary Foundation and WWF for Nature – India for conservation efforts.

Phiroze Lam, Chairperson, Pirojsha Godrej Foundation, said, “By some estimates, human activities cause the extinction of three animal species each day. The rate at which the world’s biodiversity is disappearing is alarming. It is now more important than ever to join hands to amplify awareness, research, and reignite people’s passion for the environment.”

The wildlife photography contest is set to raise widespread awareness about the nation’s biodiversity and create avenues for rekindling the interest of people in their floral and faunal cohabitants.

Commenting on the contest, Bittu Sahgal, said, “Photography allows people to pause and take in their surrounds. Wildlife photography is a powerful conservation tool that encourages people to appreciate and commune with nature and, hopefully, feel motivated to add their strength to protect what is precious.”

The Nature Sanctuary Foundation focuses on producing science-based communications and implementing holistic conservation projects addressing wildlife, human, and climate issues. Through organizing nature festivals, climate workshops, and advocacy efforts, it works at the intersection of biodiversity, economics, and climate change. The Foundation aims to foster a sustainable, biodiverse future and promote collaborative conservation efforts globally, continuing its commitment to India’s environmental preservation and advocacy.
